But when the film’s producers learned of James Cameron’s Avatar, they knew that it was a bad idea to use a title that sounded too much like the trademarked “James Cameron’s Avatar”. When Avatar: The Last Airbender was in the early stages of being remade as a live-action movie, the title of the movie was identical to the show.
